edited to add: I think I'll go to bed happy tonight. My daughter graduated & 45 seems to be screwed

(2,533 posts)Her dad offered to pay her school, but she turned it down & worked her way through. I need to stop here or I will really start to brag about that kid. I'd like to say I helped her, but she did it all on her own.

(19,564 posts)I'll never forget the joy I felt that day, myself. There's nothing that can compare to the joy of seeing your child a achieve their goals. Whatever those goals may be, it's what we aspire for them as parents.
Congratulations, to both of you!

(19,564 posts)It's why we spent those past 22 years impressing our values on them. This is just a beginning!
It's not over yet. Parenting, if you're doing it right, is a lifetime gig. You'll have many more joyous occasions to share with your daughter in the coming years, and she'll be coming back to you more and more for advice and to share her joys with you.
Enjoy you're new level of parenting to the fullest! It's a beautiful stage you're entering in your relationship!

(6,421 posts)Now I'm weeping with you Sharing your joy! I remember how I felt when my daughter got her nursing degree. It took five years. Now she's a hospice nurse. I still live that joy...and pride. It takes a very special person to be a nurse. Heartfelt congratulations to both of you....I love hearing happy news!
Best wishes~

(2,533 posts)She is really more like her father in the fact that she has so so much self discipline when it comes to health and exercise which is something I am very sorely lacking in I'm sorry to say She jogs, bikes, does jiu jitsu, ballet, and just about anything athletic. She also is really a very healthy and disciplined eater. My son said " Mom she can throw a punch like a teenage boy." I have more great kids , but she is one of them & they are all different. I was very lucky with my kids.
It takes a very special person to be a hospice nurse. You must be very proud of your daughter I wish you both the best

(19,199 posts)Congratulations to both you and your daughter. It is an immensely proud moment to see them get that sheepskin. I never let a day go by when I'm not telling my daughter how proud I am of her, and how much I love her. Parents can do EVERYTHING correctly and still have a screwed up kid. It's the choices SHE makes by herself that truly make her what she is. It sounds like she's got a great head on her shoulders. Again, congratulations!

(2,533 posts)I went to school with a girl that had a horrific family life & a gawd awful mother. She was always best in class. One day I asked her why did did so well when she had every excuse not to & she said " Because I'm going to get the hell out of here and never look back." So sometimes bad parents get kids that achieve & sometimes good parents don't. You never know . I agree.

My husband and I are traveling tomorrow to see our youngest son receive his MFA on Monday. I'm going to be sure I have plenty of
tissues in my handbag because I suspect there will be tears, too.
Congratulations!
