It sorts.
It flows from large units to small.

American exceptionalism: Only the USA, Liberia, and Burma are non-metric.

(1,109 posts)Of course my four kitties are infinitely superior. But it is good to see they haven't broken the competing cats so badly that the dear little things still try to compare to my gold standard Uber cats. We find it adorable and amusing and you have our permission to continue as we limit our photo ops to paying gigs .

How a Wolf Named Romeo Won Hearts in an Alaska Suburb
------------------------------------------------------------------
By Simon Worrall, National Geographic
...
"The amazing thing about this animal was how relatively relaxed and tolerant he was. Thats not out of the question for wolves. Certain wolves are like dogs, and they all have different personalities. Some are more cautious or fearful than others. But this wolf was downright relaxed and tolerant from the start, as if he had dropped out of the sky like a unicorn."

(21,991 posts)What a wonderful animal. I've loved wolves since I was a kid, and this one was delightfully special. You don't appreciate how big they are until you see them with a large dog.

(2,594 posts)But the end is sad. Even though he lived longer than a wolf usually does in the wild, he was killed by a couple of nutjobs. One of them was fleeing child molestation charges.
But over all the book was amazing.
Also if you look at wolf picture books and calendars, you'll see his face pop up many times.

I'd like to see an open season on all human trophy hunters.
I once knew a bear.

(25,811 posts)I used to have a cat that was the sweetest cat out there, but every so often she'd look at me in a certain way, and I'd know she was thinking, "Oh, if only you were smaller. Then I could hunt you and kill you." Deep inside her hunter soul still lived.

(47,421 posts)Always smiling when I see your cats on their backs, stretching. Normally we think of cats as curling on their stomachs.

What is this bird?
Thanks you, and good night. What a nice way to end the day

(3,424 posts)I googled long tailed birds and it is a Spatuletail Hummingbird, found in a remote area of Peru. I really love birds and enjoy finding out what the unusual ones could possibly be.

(27,755 posts)What an amazing bird!
"Spatuletail Hummingbird".
I've never seen such a long "spatula-like" tail on any bird before.
Hummingbirds are amazing birds.
I've read that some species flap their wings at hundreds of times per second, while most flap their wings at a mere 80 times per second (Incredible!)
Also, hummingbirds have a long tongue which they use to lick their food at up to
13 licks per second.
Also, being very territorial, they often chase away much larger birds such as hawks from their territory.
They live about 4 years.
(I've got to get a hummingbird feeder)
montana_hazeleyes
(3,424 posts)That's amazing information about the hummingbirds. And you reminded me I have hummingbird feeder on my to-do list.
