MGMT

First album sales over 1 million. Second album sales about 200,000 from what I can gather- 66,000 in a first week of high anticipation. Third album sales seem to be so poor that someone has scrubbed the info from the Internet to avoid embarrassing the band. Either that or the album was deemed so insignificant that the sales figure is buried 500 pages down in the Google search.

After the first album, MGMT focused on what they really wanted to do all along and started making overtly psychedelic rock much to the disappointment of most of their fans who dug the radio friendly singles from the first album. I was aware of MGMT at the time, but beyond "Time to Pretend" I didn't really hear anything that compelled me enough to buy the album, so I didn't. Then I heard the first single from the second album, "Flash Delirium," and almost immediately decided that I had to have it. I've enjoyed the entire album for several years. However, it was considered a flop by most of their fans and critics.

I wasn't even aware of the self titled third album until earlier this year and just got around to buying it recently without even hearing a song off of it. I assume that's because nothing off of it ever hit the airwaves. I got it for $6 on Amazon. It's widely considered their worst album according to fans of the old stuff and critics. I think it's one of the best albums I've ever bought.
