"Those Were the Days" in the original Russian

As heard on NPR's Says You earlier this evening: the original Russian version of the classic song "Those Were the Days".

I never knew that this was originally a Russian song (the lyrics are quite different) but now that I do know, I can't believe that I didn't pick up on that before. It sounds so very typically Russian.

1. cool!

i always had it mentally catalogued as a russian-genre song, but never knew the history.

guess i assumed someone in america or england just wrote it in a russian style, didn't know it was an actual russian tune.

2. Actually sounds more like a Yiddish sleeker song to me.

5. That was originally a Russian song too

I remember it well:

"Comrade, we could use a man like Josef Stalin again..."

6. That song always had special memories for me ( The English version with Mary Hopkins) but I always

knew it was Russian because of the music. I also like Beef Stroganoff if it's made with sour cream. I'm not going to let 45 and Putin sour me on those 2 things .
