The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust a quick 'hi'!
Hi!
I'm not a big poster, but I finally hit 10 posts and got the little message saying I should post an intro in the DU Lounge--so here I am, intro-ing!
I've actually lurked and read for a very long time, but never really got around to signing up until recently. I'm 56 and in the Philly area. I was a Democrat all my life until 2008; when Hillary didn't get the nomination, I was very disappointed and I decided to join the Greens, whose overall platform was more in line with my ideals. I was in the Greens for 8 years, but always voting Democrat -- then after last year, I decided that I'd given it a good shot, but that adding additional parties and broader discourse hadn't worked out to be the solution. So I rejoined the Dems to resist, and here I am. Resisting!
Thank you all for your insight and brilliance, and especially for the funny stuff -- which sometimes makes an unbearable day bearable. Glad I finally got around to joining. (I'm still figuring out all the lingo -- like k and r and Fitzmas. Thank heaven there's a google, lol.)

(17,605 posts)...25 yr job because the agency was 'going in a different direction'. I found a lot of support. There are lots of other topics here that I subscribe to.. the eldercare, cannabis and golden retriever/pets rooms. they are all great ppl and I have made some friends! I was always Independent until Newts 'Contract on America'. After that I swore to never vote for and R ever ever again.
I'm from the Pacific Northwest near Seattle. I'm a big twitter (@Samnsara1997) user and only post political and dog stuff on FB.
I've been poking at the Pacific Crest Trail the last couple of years. I can't wait until I get to the Washington part! It looks so beautiful!
Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking forward to diving in around here... in my really really really slow way, lol.

(5,632 posts)And welcome!
I joined in April this year.
I post the most in music appreciation.
Like music?
I would rather listen to good jams than watch the "stupid box".
(Course it is no longer a box-more like a panel).

(28 posts)Best decision I ever made: When I was in grad school in 2009, I got rid of my TV service because I was studying all the time anyway. I still have the box, but it's not connected to any TV service. (I do stream Netflix, though.)
Recently I was watching regular television somewhere, and I couldn't believe how much of it was just commercials! Then I realized that there really isn't any content -- just shiny things to hold commercials.
Music is better! (But not radio.)

(5,632 posts)I grew up on radio so I still "tune" in the car. I have cds too for when the people won't shut the hell up. - pop in a cd and -ahhhh ....no commercials.
Admission time ...and may get spanked!
I really can't do talk radio! I imagine lots of fans of it here but since I can't join the discussion - I can't like it. I already yell at the news sometimes (i have to hear it sometimes when other ppl watch) so I could imagine what talk radio would do for me in the car!
