I've been leaving the door from the master bedroom open for Elmo and Stitch to come out and explore when I'm watching Snowy.
This morning I was fixing breakfast when I noticed he was sitting at the point in the hallway where he and Snowy could see each other...
Assessing the situation
Hmmm...how far can I go?
Right before Snowy stood up and Elmo scooted back down the hallway and under the bed

(15,805 posts)Well, if he's brave enough to start exploring that's a good sign. Can you close the door so they can't hide and have to stay out in the main living area where you are? They need to see their new world in action and not just react and be frightened by strange sounds and smells. If you can give the kittehs a safe landing spot like a cat tree or a shelf, that height really helps give them a sense of security while letting them have the full immersion exposure to you and your household so they learn to adjust faster. From my own experience this really works and will make their transition much easier and less traumatic.

(31,384 posts)Didn't see anything I liked that combined sisal for scratching/sturdy enough for both these big kitties
at our local pet stores that wasn't outrageously expensive.

(15,805 posts)I've bought two over the years, one has fluffy carpet for scratching that my Minnie Me prefers, and the other has the rough sisal that Jack The Cat loves to shred, and they each have staked out the tree they like.
Minnie races up and around the carpeted 'trunk' of her tree like a monkey and chooses to sleep at the very top (I think it's over 6 ft) where I put her plush bed, or in the 'cave'. Jack is a bit tubby so he sleeps on a middle platform where I placed his basket. He's so lazy he even takes a more circuitous route to get there and walks across the sofa, then up to the arm, along the window sill, and finally he curls up in his basket.
Hope your new kittehs will get a lot of fun use out of your new tree.

(31,384 posts)when they relinquished the kitties indicated both Elmo and Stitch liked dogs. So far, Stitch seems to stand his ground more, but Elmo
appears to be more interested in exploring, which means he has to ignore Snowy.

Especially with the release of the secret Republican kill care plan.
