On Saturday 6 July 1957, The Quarrymen played at St. Peter's Church Rose Queen garden fête in Woolton. They first played on the back of a moving flatbed lorry, in a procession of floats that carried the Rose Queen and retiring Rose Queen, Morris dancers, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Guides and Cubs, led by the Band of the Cheshire Yeomanry. At 4:15 they played on a permanent stage in the field behind the church, before a display by the City of Liverpool Police Dogs. They were playing "Come Go with Me" when Paul McCartney arrived, and in the Scout hut after the set, Ivan Vaughan introduced McCartney to Lennon, who chatted for a few minutes before the band set up in the church hall for their performance at that evening's "Grand Dance". McCartney demonstrated how he tuned his guitar and then sang Eddie Cochran's "Twenty Flight Rock", Gene Vincent's "Be-Bop-A-Lula", and a medley of Little Richard songs.

Aunt Mimi was in the audience.
Ivan Vaughn and Paul McCartney were born on the same day, June 18, 1942.
According to the article on MSN.com, there is an actual reel-to-reel recording of the Quarrymen from that set.
Personally, I'm very happy this chance meeting happened!

It was 60 years ago today; Beatles’ life lessons

BY JAMES GILLOTTI / PUBLISHED: JULY 6, 2017

In the history of the Beatles, July 6, 1957, is an important date, known as The Day John Met Paul. On the 60th anniversary of that event, it’s worthwhile to reflect upon what occurred that day and in the ensuing months and years in the lives of the young Beatles.

On July 6, 1957, a festival took place at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in the Woolton section of Liverpool, England. Part of the entertainment was provided by a musical group known as the Quarrymen, several local teenage boys. Besides the afternoon show, the band also sang and played at 8 p.m. The Quarrymen did not leave the grounds between their gigs, but remained at the festival, passing some time in the church hall.

Paul McCartney, who had come to see the group’s early performance, paid much attention to its leader, John Lennon. Late that afternoon, during the lengthy break between shows, John and Paul were introduced to each other by Ivan Vaughan, one of the band members and a mutual friend of both youths. Paul then played the guitar and sang, not with the others but “to” the group, in an impromptu audition. Lennon was so impressed with Paul’s musical skills that he invited McCartney to team up with the Quarrymen.

In early 1958, Paul convinced John to let Paul’s friend, George Harrison, become the next addition. A few more members came and went, and two years later, the band was renamed the Beatles. Ringo Starr replaced the previous drummer in the summer of 1962, and they soon skyrocketed to incredible fame. But, what lessons can we learn from The Day John Met Paul and the events of the next several years?
