My last procedure instructions were to avoid high fiber such as veggies for 2-3 days before the procedure. Low fiber stuff was OK. And of course, for the last 24 hours, just "clear liquids".

Brining them doesn't stop them from being cucumbers just as brining corned beef doesn't stop it from being beef.

I would avoid them, esp. because the acid content of pickles may irritate the intestinal lining.

Surely you can do without pickles for what, about 48 hours?

Macaroni and cheese is probably OK. LOL.

PS-You've probably heard it already, but the worse part of a colonoscopy is the preparation. I've had the procedure three times so far, and that last quart of insipid salt solution can be difficult to gag down. It helps if it's ice cold. I won't go into what happens next .

Now, how's that for trivia... Botanists say fruit for that reason, but cooks would say vegetable.

Which illustrates how ridiculous things get when you mix scientific definitions with common labels.

I think most of us would consider sweet plant parts as being fruits, and crunchy not so sweet plant parts as vegetables.

But the botanical definition would classify green beans, squash, corn on the cob, and chili peppers as fruits, simply because they contain seeds by which the plant can reproduce.

IMHO the botanists should use different terms instead of "fruit" and "vegetable", and leave the commoners and their tomatoes and cucumbers and peppers alone.

Taking it even further, people can be fruits, as in "fruit of my loins". So, you see, fruit is such a broad term that it really is inappropriate for any sort of scientific classification.

Although I suppose it does provide pedantic types with a curious sense of accomplishment when they correct someone who, for example, refers to a tomato as a vegetable.

because the terms used are, at best, woefully inexact and general, even when used by a trained botanist.

And then they get trotted out with a snicker and/or sneer by someone who wants to one-up somebody about their food choices.

It's just too stupid.

It is a fungus not a plant.

Although they are called "fruiting bodies", it is more like the kind of fruit as in "fruit of my loins".

The goal being to provide the doctor with a clear field of view of your lower intestine. Chunks of undigested pickle would not be helpful. Residue of tomato, grape, pomegranate, cherry, etc. juice might obscure bleeding and would also not help. What comes out the last morning of the procedure should be clear or slightly yellow (from bile, I guess). I'll leave further detail to your imagination. But the saline solution you are prescribed to take the night before is basically a colon cleanse.

Other than my arse getting sore from the hard toilet seat, I have to say it wasn't awful, not like diarrhea from a bug. There was no cramping, just a feeling of fullness followed by a gush into the bowl. I ended up rolling up an old towel into a U-shape to pad the seat, that helped quite a bit.
