With all this talk about Trump's voter fraud commission and requesting voter information from the states, I just thought I'd take a look to see what's already out there. I had done this a few years ago and basically I didn't exist. But this time it was very different.
At least 3 sites list my name, age, race, DOB, home address, party affiliation and phone number. One even listed relative names and past residences all the way back to my childhood home.

I am a little freaked out by this. I did not realized governments had opened up their records so extensively. I can understand releasing voter registration information, your name, district and party affiliation, but the rest just seems to be a major invasion of privacy.
Am I overreacting?

wow. You are not overreacting at all. That's amazingly intrusive and ridiculous beyond belief.

(23,650 posts)I know back when there was the telephone book, (white pages) people could look up your phone number and address, but you could request an unlisted number. Seems to me we should have the same options with the info the gov't releases.

(777 posts)My state is not available. I was not on several other sites, but beenverified has my age, current residence, and residences going back over 40 years, plus a couple of errors.
When I worked for Dept of the Interior, my pay grade was public info, as it is for most federal employees. This can be cross-referenced to the federal GS pay scales for a range of salaries within each grade. Anyway, when the Office of Personnel Mangement was hacked, all this plus my security background check went somewhere, probably China.
