(110,900 posts)so I moved to the desert. It's amazing, once you get away from the river, the only bugs are flies and moths. People out here start to kvetch when the humidity goes above 20%. Most days, the low 90s can be quite comfortable if the humidity is next to nothing, you just have to remember to drink water, a lot of it. Today it's in the low 90s with 30%+ humidity so I'm a little grumpy because I'm sweaty.

(713 posts)I live in the CA Capital & the saying there is "You know it's summer in Sacramento when the Robins fall from the trees in flames.." I'm planning to move to HUmboldt county soon, because of the CRAZY heat. I'm in San Diego right now, (been here almost a month and have about 3 weeks to go), & HATE it here due to the crazy & unexpected humidity & the huge numbers of people. I'm in an area that is literally across the street rice paddies and miles & miles of pastures... You're not old & crusty but just have a refined sense of what summer is SUPPOSED to be like...

(26,173 posts)I just harvested a bumper crop of garlic, that is currently hanging to cure My flower beds are an explosion of color. My yard is full of beautiful birds and their amazing songs. I have a lovely "air conditioned" Maple Tree, in my back yard, and the air temp beneath the branches is much cooler than the rest of the yard. When I finish mowing (and I have a HUGE lot) or weeding (lots of flower beds), or trimming (lots of trees and bushes), I sit beneath those branches and read while sipping on a nice cold adult beverage. And at night I wander around the yard, in the midst of a gathering of fireflies.
Yes, I LOVE Summer.

(63,221 posts)Luckily I don't have to pay for air conditioning, so I can keep my apartment cool and my sister lives up on the southern Maine coast so I can go up there on weekends and be in the pool the whole time. The beaches are nice, but the ocean water is so cold that it's barely tolerable. Fall is my favorite season. I love it when it's in the 50's and 60's.

(63,221 posts)It only really starts getting pleasant in October and then we start to lose all the leaves. Both winter and summer are far too long and spring and fall - the best seasons - are far too short in New England.
