but I drink it straight up anyway because 40something years of drinking sweet tea probably didn't help me much and my doc said I had to quit. Plain tea and black coffee. Ya get used to it.

*I know "iced" is the correct way but we just never say it that way down here. It's always just "ice" or. far more commonly, just "tea". And if we don't specify "plain" or "un-sweet" we will get a pound of delicious but forbidden sugar in each glass.

I suppose it's an acquired taste, but I'm not going to even try to acquire it because I don't need the sugar. And nobody drinks iced tea that way in my neck of the woods anyhow; if you order iced tea at a restaurant you have to ask for sugar.

I don't like beer.

I don't like deviled eggs if they are made with sweet relish.

My families deviled eggs are made with vinegar, yellow mustard, a small amount

of mayo, salt, and pepper.

I don't associate them with a hot summer day.

Ice cream, milk shakes, frozen cream pies, and iced beverages are more to my liking on a hot summer day.

I do associate homemade macaroni salad with hot summer days because my family

uses home grown tomatoes in our macaroni salad.

My father grew horseradish.

He and my brother use to wear gas masks when they ground it up to make horseradish sauce.

Have you tried it with biscuits and breakfast gravy.

It sounds strange but they compliment each other.

Also, banana peppers and tomatoes are yummy with biscuits and breakfast gravy.

I use bacon drippings or sausage dripping to make my breakfast gravy.

Beer cools down as it transfers, loses, energy to the ice.

"Ice cold" doesn't really have any meaning in chemistry.

so it could still be as cold as ice yet not frozen.

But, depending on the beer, I'm good with anything from 32 to about 60.

19. Ice cream
Sun Jul 30, 2017, 04:30 PM

as old fashioned as you can get. The kind where you pour ice and salt around the churn and hand crank it under a shade tree until its done, then top it with fresh fruit or berries from the garden.
In the mid '70s my home ec teacher was in her 70's. But the woman knew her stuff. She shared her favorite no-fail recipe for ice cream and it was a complete surprise; a six-pk of soda and a can of Eagle Brand milk. Mix those together well before pouring into the churn. If you want to add other ingredients, mix them in 1/2 way through the churning process. If you use canned fruit be sure and drain the liquid well. This amount will make 1/2 a churn, double for a full one.
I've used this recipe for 40 years now. The possibilities are endless.

Coke is actually one of the best, but I don't add fruit when I use it. Good additives for that flavor include nuts, butterscotch chips and caramel. Using orange soda doesn't make it taste like a creamsicle although you could probably tweak the recipe. Orange, 7-up, Pineapple and Mango sodas taste more like sherbets, especially by adding mandarin oranges, pineapple or mangoes.
The only flavor I found disgusting was grape. Cream soda is my favorite.
