Did a TV show you watched as a kid

… trigger your interest in pursuing a particular career path that you otherwise wouldn’t have thought about?

I often wonder how many scientists, doctors/nurses, lawyers, detectives, etc., were prompted to pursue certain careers as a result of a TV show that captured their imagination when they were young.

but after a paralyzing migraine kept me from studying for my freshman biology mid-term and i bombed that, i switched into economics, then later into computer science. i'm a sort of financial analyst now.

nowadays, if anyone was inspired to become a financial analyst due to a tv show or movie, that's probably a huge ethical red flag....

there's not a whole lot of "super financial analyst" shows out there now!

Years ago the Smothers Brothers had a song about "My Old Man" - and "someday I'm gonna' be the same.

No shortage of that on TV in the 60s.

... that led me to being a court reporter. I knew that I didn't want to be a lawyer - but I DID want to be in the courtroom, where I could be privy to all the goings-on and hear the arguments from both sides of an issue.

I wound up working as a court reporter for three decades - a job I loved every single day.

I remember thinking that Miss Kitty was pretty darned sly. I did, in fact, spend a number of years "behind bars". Ah, the stories I could tell -- but I won't!

my toy nurses kit was interesting too. I went back and forth between teaching and nursing until I was able to help an elementary teacher while in high school. After that, it was teaching all the way.

I watched Lloyd Bridges in Sea Hunt and Silent Service and Victory at Sea about Navy submarines and ships, so I became a Navy diver and am just wrapping up a 40 yr career as a marine biologist.

The only bad thing about it has been watching a Cheeto my age taking apart NOAA and the EPA regulations because the white trash POS can't get over his deep racist hate of everything Obama...including environmental protection.

I was hugely into the space race and astronomy as a kid, culminating into the near orgasmic joy of the moonlanding. I was so sure, certain even, that by the time I was really, really old, say 30 or so, I would be spending my holidays in fancy hotels on the moon and Mars.

Yes, it kicked off a huge interest in science, especially physics and astronomy, and lo! I became a computer programmer.
