Man vs. Armadillo --- Man 0, Armadillo 1

?cache=8vmzanojak&ops=scalefit_720_noupscale

An East Texas man was wounded after he fired a gun at an armadillo in his yard and the bullet ricocheted back to hit him in his face, the county sheriff said on Friday.

“His wife was in the house. He went outside and took his .38 revolver and shot three times at the armadillo,” Rowe said.

The animal’s hard shell deflected at least one of three bullets, which then struck the man’s jaw, he said.

The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where his jaw was wired shut, according to Rowe.

The status of the animal is unknown

(Yes, that's what a group of armadillo are called...I looked it up!)

One of the most placid creatures I've come across...they would let me walk within 3 or 4 feet of them before shuffling off. They would only run if I made a sudden move or made a loud noise. Ranging in size from about twice the size of a football down to about the size of a small cantaloupe, there were 8 or 10 of them. Just using their snouts to poke around under leaves and rocks, I assume looking for insects or other food.

Why would anyone want to shoot one???

And they carry leprosy. I have no problem plinking one. But I have a hard time disposing of them because no scavengers will touch a dead one.

Don't get any Armadillo blood on you, like from roadkill. Besides humans, they are the only animal known to carry leprosy.

I don't know why or how but there are several posts of this article dated today and also several dated 2015. It just struck me as funny-you see this a lot with FB memes but less often with news articles...

Fun With Guns: I Think They’re Jacking With Us Now Edition

August 04, 2017
By: Juanita Jean Herownself

There is a never ending list of men in Texas who shoot armadillos and have the bullet ricochet back and put out their eye or some damn thing.

Here’s one from the Huffington Post today.

It is the same exact story we covered in July of 2015. And pretty much the same story in October of 2015.

Here ya go on July of 2016: http://juanitajean.com/fun-with-guns-wildlife-edition/

I’m thinking that on a slow news day, the amazing armadillo gets rehashed. If ya think about it, pretty much anything can happen at 3:00 am and neither you nor I would be there to dispute it.

Either that or there’s just way too many people running around with an itchy handgun at 3:00 am.

Thelma this it’s one kind of Russian Commie signal. Like, if you see that story, it’s a spy message to the Russians that something is fixing to happen. Something awful – especially the July 2016 one.

I dunno. After all, Thelma was right about something once so it might happen again.

Down South we called them possums on the half-shell.

...how in the HELL did they ever get ACROSS I-44??!?

.

One morning, several years ago, I saw one in the heart of downtown Kansas City, just strolling along the street near where I parked. I got to within fifty feet of him before I had to veer off and go my way. But I know he wasn't long for this world, because he was headed straight for Interstate 70, into the heart of downtown rush-hour traffic. Rest in (squished) Pieces, Mr. Armadillo!

About how armadillos crossed the Mississippi River. Some people to this day insist the critters can walk across the bottom of the river to the other side!
