I first heard those two songs when they were played in concert, August 1971, on the Who's Next tour. I was fourteen years old. It was mind-blowing.

He says 1971 was the year rock exploded. Not sure I agree 100% with his thesis, but his book is a good read:

I had to read the book quick as I sent it to a friend as a birthday/housewarming gift a couple of months ago. But with the miracle of Youtube and other online resources, I was able to listen to a couple of unfamiliar songs Hepworth mentioned in the book. I'm looking forward to my friend sending the book back so I can spend a little more time reading and listening.
