Slayer, Lamb Of God, Behemoth.
Last night at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, CA.
By the end of the night, my feet were telling me, "Either you're getting too old for this, or you need better shoes."
Lamb of God is the greatest live band since Mastodon, who is the greatest live band since System Of A Down, who is the greatest live band since Megadeth, who is the greatest live band since Iron Maiden, who is the greatest live band since Styx. (Greatest in the sense that they are able to faithfully reproduce live what I hear on the studio album.) They played a ten song set, and it felt like ten minutes. First time I've seen a show-long crowd sing-a-long for a band with a growl singer. That was truly something else, man.
Slayer was Slayer and there were no surprises there.
The surprise band of the night was Behemoth. I thought they were gonna be a joke and I ran down front to get a good look at the corpse-paint Black Metal band. Turns out they're really really good, and I think I kinda like 'em now.
So anyway, that brings to a close my summer concert season of 2017.
Maiden last month, Metallica last week, and Slayer last night.
Not a bad run (and I've still got money set aside for any one-off shows that happen to pop up. I'm lookin' at you, SOAD.)
Rock on, fellow babies.
