As I was researching an academic paper on music from WWII era, I came across a series of "soundies" that archived a lot of black music from this era. here are 2 of the better clips

2. The Nicholas Brothers are fabulous.

I used to show a documentary about them in which they addressed the racism they faced in the industry to my third grade classes during Black History Month. The kids were always amazed by their dancing and shocked by the racism Fayard and Harold Nicholas encountered.

I got out of teaching about 10 years ago. I imagine the kids would still be impressed by the dancing, but perhaps the racism would be less surprising, now that it's become socially acceptable again in some circles.
