He's taking them in the daylight to go to Korea and fight

We have to go there and show 'em what it means to be real tough

(5,730 posts)My grandfather fought in the Korean War, though I'm not sure how much fighting he actually did. I had a photo of him getting on a train in his uniform to go off to war, waiving & smiling. I've thought about that the last couple of days.

(19,387 posts)I purchased a 1950 radio a week or so ago.
Korean war started in 1950.
I was curious as to what kind of music would have been heard on it back then, so I searched hits of 1950, and saw that Fats Domino was quite popular, with a couple of #1 hits.
Turns out he had this one about the outbreak of war in Korea.
Rock and roll hadn't really taken off yet.
Thanks to your Grandfather, and men and women like him!

(5,730 posts)Well, my brother just texted me that he was a cook, but not to happy about it, as he wanted to be in the action. They asked about experience in purchasing and cooking, and they nabbed him. He was always a good cook.

(5,730 posts)He wound up as a cook because some major came in one day asking around for someone with restaurant experience, who could cook. He had owned grocery stores and delis.
He helped me in many situations in my life, and never said a word. I expect it was the same with many others. Very humble guy, with a great sence of humor.
He played baseball in the minor leagues for the army. I played in college and after. He traveled to help me with batting, from awful to out of the park, and other skills. He sat on the front row through a trial, eons ago, in which I was dramatically accused of being a whore with scores of men, a lesbian, & many other things, that his generation was not used to hearing. After the cross exam ended, a day and a half, he hugged me, and said, nothing they said matters at all.

(6,102 posts)I really enjoyed hearing Fats Domino belt that one out. I had no idea there were songs about Korea. I wonder if that's the only one.
