Revisiting "2001", getting oddysied again

I'm enjoying watching “2001: A Space Odyssey” on TCM. First time I saw it, we’d been partying and indulging all day and decided to go to the after-midnight showing in Hollywood. We got there just prior to the movie starting, and the only seats left were in the middle of the front row. After that final sequence they had to just about peel us out of the upholstery. Anyway, many years later and blessedly substance-free, I can watch the film and know that my initial confusion was enhanced but not caused by any substances. So there’s that.

2. Ha!

I'm being disgustingly well behaved, I'll have you know. My current "Me", however, is still sometimes amazed that the '60s "Me" survived to tell the tale!

3. I wasn't alive then but I have similar thoughts about my early

2000s. My twenties were a disaster.

4. I love that film!

It is a bit strange, but it is an astounding cinematic wonder.

Kubrick pushed the envelope and made the greatest SciFi film in history. He broke all the tropes.

* No sounds in outer space.
* Music score and cinema instead of dialog.
* Exhibiting the utter loneliness of space.
* Mind jarring visuals.
* Plus he just pushes so many buttons, without knowing which ones. He knew his film would have impact.

I can watch that film over an over again. It is an extraordinary achievement.
