That Basset looks almost exactly like mine did though - and sleeps the same way too.

All Bassets are born contortionists; resting that way helps with their back problems, you see.

They're real characters - a lot like how Churchill explained why pigs were his favorite pet: "dogs look up to you and cats look down on you," he famously once said. "But pigs see you as an equal."

Bassets are a lot like that. Mine was anyway.

we used to joke about our basset being "ferocious".

as mrs. unblock puts it "bassets are soft as shite."

I used to joke the same way about mine.

Whenever he heard someone go by (and they hear everything, even if they often pretend not to), he'd stay there, eyes shut and half-asleep, and growl just a little.

If I answered the door and he didn't like what he saw - and he wasn't that way with every stranger - he'd stand behind me and bark.

Ferociously, of course.

He was a character, and I really miss him.

I appreciate that.

We get so attached to our furry friends, and it's tough losing them.

If people were a little more like dogs, what a world this would be.

It makes me wonder if some of the women pictured are really, well, hookers making deposits for their pimps.

My 5 pound Pom, Pookie protected me from the Jehovahs Witnesses. We were out for peepeepoopoo time and the JW's walked by. Pookie was in the middle of a dump---but he still barked at them.

They were horrified. 😆
