I am Spartacus.....well no I wrote the screenplay and those words... Dalton Trumbo

For your holiday season movies considerations........Trumbo

Staring;

Bryan Cranston as Trumbo
with
Helen Mirren, Lewis CK.John Goodman and others

Awards, 1 win and 24 nominations

n 1947, Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) was Hollywood's top screenwriter until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs. TRUMBO (directed by Jay Roach) recounts how Dalton used words and wit to win two Academy Awards and expose the absurdity and injustice under the blacklist, which entangled everyone from gossip columnist Hedda Hopper (Helen Mirren) to John Wayne, Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger

James Dalton Trumbo (December 9, 1905 – September 10, 1976) was an American screenwriter and novelist. As one of the Hollywood Ten, he refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in 1947 during the committee's investigation of Communist influences in the motion picture industry. Trumbo won two Academy Awards while blacklisted; one (for Roman Holiday) was originally given to a front writer, and one (for The Brave One) was awarded to "Robert Rich", Trumbo's pseudonym.[1][2]
Blacklisting effectively ended in 1960 when it lost credibility. Trumbo was given credit for two blockbuster films: Otto Preminger made public that Trumbo wrote the screenplay for the smash hit, Exodus, and Kirk Douglas announced that Trumbo was the screenwriter of Spartacus.

The movie includes many of his real life statements, letters from prison, but in general
a good movie

BTW.. He wrote one of the best presidential assassination movies too

Even though Woody Allen made the movie "The Front", which delved into the same issue, this was a docudrama. The ending was superb

I doubt this movie could have been made in the 70's and perhaps 80's. There were too many in Hollywood who didn't stand up at the time, and were not presented in the most favorable light in the film. It was because of the independent film studio where things started to change

hubby and I saw it two weeks ago. We also saw Star Wars Christmas day which we enjoyed but "Trumbo" was our favorite of the two.

Everybody now seems to be talking about democracy. I don't understand this. As I think of it, democracy isn't like a Sunday suit to be brought out and worn only for parades. It's the kind of a life a decent man leads, it's something to live for and to die for.

Dishonesty in government is the business of every citizen. It is not enough to do your own job. There's no particular virtue in that. Democracy isn't a gift. It's a responsibility.
