Emmys: TV Academy apologizes for photo mix-up

During the Emmys "In Memoriam" segment, there was mix-up.

André Previn, who died Feb. 28, was recognized during the memorial. But the photo the awards show used to identify the composer and conductor was of someone else.

Instead, the face of Leonard Slatkin, 75, conductor, composer and music director laureate at Detroit Symphony, popped up on the screen – and he is still very much alive.

In an emailed statement to USA TODAY, the producers, the Television Academy and Fox said they "sincerely apologize for this error."

2. I know... I went to see Andre Previn

conduct my university symphony when I was in college.

A very dynamic (obviously much younger) conductor... a rock star of the classical music world (to borrow a phrase)

3. And Slatkin is a brilliant musician who lets you know what he wants just by his body language

and his eyes....

4. Why do the awards ceremonies (all of them) seemingly take so little pains to verify their memorium

segments. The past several years have been really beyond horrible--leaving out so many (talking to you,, Oscars) and misnaming or other errors. Many of us actually do watch these segments. They are important.
