Why ‘The Killing’ got killed by AMC

No real surprise but AMC announced just now that there won’t be a third season of the moody drama “The Killing.”
The network said it reached the decision after “much deliberation,” which is probably true because fans of the show were nothing if not loyal.

Except, of course, for those who never got over the way the first season ended.

Often, it’s easy to blame networks for failing to give decent shows a shot, but in this case, sad to say, the blame has to be with the show itself.

Yes, the American version completely followed the story line of the original Danish version and a resolution to the murder of Rosie Larson was never planned as the season finale.

That said, the problem really was that the show spent much of the first season casting suspicion on virtually every member of the cast, more than pushing the line between “tease” and “torture.”

After all of that, ending with no resolution felt to many viewers like a slap in the face.

1. I've got the entire Danish version on DVD

but have yet to watch it. That was in two series. Are you saying that the US series duplicated that and yet at the end of the second series it still was unknown who killed her ?

There's another series we've already had in the UK too named "The Bridge" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bridge_%28Danish/Swedish_TV_series%29 I've got that stored on the Sky hardrive and have yet to watch that too. Looks like there's a second series of that coming.

The one which aggravated me the most was Carnivale never being finished.

2. the US series drags the story out over 2 years, yes unresolved at end of 1st season

3. The original Danish version is so much better

Although I can't speak to how the American version was overall as I couldn't continue watching after the first few episodes. I kept saying, "But that's not how the real story goes!"

5. It was so good

I would talk to my husband while he was at work and we'd ask each other, "Who killed Nanna Birk Larsen?!?" (that's the victims name in the Danish version) We couldn't wait until the end to find out.

The second season of the Danish version was good but it took me half the season to really get into it. It didn't help that the English subtitles were rife with misspellings and grammatical errors. The third season comes out next year, I believe.

Someone else mentioned the Swedish/Danish show "The Bridge" -- that's a great one, too.
