Quincy Jones sues Jackson's estate

Last edited Mon Jul 31, 2023, 11:13 PM - Edit history (3)

Belfast Telegraph.co.uk (October 2013): Music producer Quincy Jones is...claiming he is owed millions in royalties and production fees on some of the superstar's greatest hits...

The music has been used in the film This Is It and a pair of Cirque du Soleil shows based on the King of Pop's songs...Jones' lawsuit seeks at least 10 million dollars (£6.2m) from the singer's estate and Sony Music Entertainment...(T)he lawsuit states...(that) Jackson's hits Billie Jean, Thriller and Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough are among the songs Jones claims were re-edited to deprive him of royalties and his producer's fees...(T)he producer's contracts called for him to have the first opportunity to re-edit or alter the songs, in part to protect his reputation.

Et tu, Quincy? But seriously, folks, Ozzy Osbourne legally got away with having a couple of his albums re-recorded to get out of paying his rhythm section royalties. Getting rid of a producer may not be that simple.

It is just amazing to me how many people are creeping up through the cracks looking to get money from a dead man.

Why can these damn people let Michael Jackson rest in peace? I think he deserves it ... and then some!

Sad damn world isn't it?

Quincy Jones ... some great friend to MJ you were huh?

received writing credit on these songs, but I am sure that he helped write them. It's all about the contract. For example, producer Tom Dowd was always a gun for hire and never got points or residuals, but he really should have for all of the hit records that he helped to create. He did not because of his contract.

I had no idea they'd adulterated Quincy's production values so horribly.
