I still haven't searched the TCM site for explanations of the unconventional cast lists, but in the case of the 1940 Pride and Prejudice, which I have seen more times than I can count, I didn't even recognize the names listed.

It turns out Vernon Downing and Elspeth Dudgeon were uncredited cast members who played, respectively, Captain Carter and Mrs. King.
