While I love Audrey Hepburn, and enjoy the music and costumes of the musical version, this production is how it really should be performed.

Leslie Howard manages to be biting and sarcastic without being downright ugly, which is no mean feat. Rex Harrison as Higgins was, IMHO, so nasty that only a mother could love him. And Audrey, God bless her, wasn't in the same class as Wendy Hiller as an actress.

If there's anybody who only knows this play through My Fair Lady, please - give yourself a treat and watch this version. You will be richly rewarded.

...and so know a bit about what Shaw's intentions. To this day I still can't get my head around delicate Audrey Hepburn as a Cockney flower girl.

But I would like to see Wendy Hiller.
