Did anyone catch "Der Rosenkavelier" this afternoon?

On "Live from the Met"? Excellent performance. My absolute favorite opera.

1. Bravissimo

I tune into the the Live from the Met program whenever possible and caught this performance. It was a definitely a great performance. I am going to stream this performance to view it.

Among my favorite pieces of classical music. Wow. So emotional!

3. Small comment about the Met. Rudolph Bing, who was nonracist....

enough to bring Marion Anderson to the Met, would not hire Beverly Sills, allegedly because she was Jewish. Well, after BIng was gone she ended up running the Met and all of Lincoln Center.

Love this Opera. My second favorite after Turandot. Oh who knows, whatever I am listening to is my favorite at least for the moment. Forgot Salome. Mmmmm.

Richard Strauss, IMNSHO, wrote the most beautiful music for the female voice. The final scene is just glorious and heavenly.

I don't rate operas, but this genius opera in the spirit of The Marriage of Figaro by one of Strauss' favorite composers (and mine) is right at the top along with it.

7. I saw the Met perform it in Detroit

with Elisabeth Soderstrom, Tatyana Troyanos, and Kathleen Battle. Which is right up there with the performance by Dame Kiri TeKanawa, Fredrika Von Strade, and Kathleen Battle. I'll have to post it. There's a version on YouTube from the Met's 100th anniversary celebration, I think.

And his "Four Last Songs" performed by Dame Kiri is incredible!

9. I listened to it on the radio this weekend.

It was also in movie theaters. In my town, it's showing again this Wednesday at noon and at 6. You can get to your local theater from this page.
