Commander Coty and His Lost Planet Airman

Down to Seeds and Stems Again Blues

>

I'm sittin alone, Saturday night, watching the Late Late Show
A bottle of wine, some cigarettes, I got no place to go
Well, I saw your other man today, he was wearing my brand new shoes
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too

Well, I met my old friend Bob today from up in Bowling Green
He had the prettiest little gal that I'd ever seen
But I couldn't hide my tears at all 'cause she looked just like you
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too

Now everybody tells me there's other ways to get high
They don't seem to understand, I'm too far gone to try
Now these lonely memories, they're all I can't lose
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too

Well, my dog died just yesterday and left me all alone
The finance company dropped by today and repossessed my home
That's just a drop in the bucket compared to losing you
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too

Got the down to seeds and stems again blues

to listen to on YouTube while I'm wasted posting on DU.

I've actually listened to the entire The Baroques album a few times late at night. I have some friends in Austin and Dallas that might enjoy listening to it also, but the town where I currently live is a cultural backwater so I don't have anyone to talk about music with anymore.

I attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with the band members and knew them all. One word in the song "Bicycle" is in response to a challenge I posed to a couple of bands to use the word "merkin" in a lyric. I owned a much worse for the wear vinyl copy of that album from its release date until the CD became available early in this century.

Oh, and the lyric goes, "I'll take back the merkin that I gave you for Christmas, and you'll be sorry when the wind gets cold, cause it'll be hanging from the aerial of my bicycle...."

Try streaming this commercial-free radio station, wzig.org. You won't be sorry. You never know what they will play next.

that released two albums in the 60s. I wondered if there might be some confusion, just like there was a US band and a UK band that were both named "Kaleidoscope"?

It is mentioned in the comments section of this YouTube link:

Hes got a big bunch of social justice songs. He died back in the 90's, but je left a good legacy of music. He used to play this song at Reggae On The River (Rod was a Humboldt resident) while the CAMP choppers flew over the festival with huge bundles of pot hanging below.

Except I can't find the original on Youtube.

12 x 35 = 420

Ochs sample,

"Smoking marijuana is more fun than drinking beer,
But a friend of ours was captured and they gave him thirty years
Maybe we should raise our voices, ask somebody why
But demonstrations are a drag, besides we're much too high
And I'm sure it wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small circle of friends"
