Music by decade

I've heard it said the best music Of! All! Time! is the music you listened to when you were sixteen. My favourites are a bit weird, though. I like roughly 1977-1988 (turned sixteen in 81).

But when i was a kid, my parents played 50s music all the time, and I've gotten very into that lately (again). I've got 50s on 5 on the Sirius/XM, got copies of all my mom's old 50s stuff. Great music.

Then I flipped the station over to 40s on 4. Go figure, I love that stuff, too.

I'm just not a big fan of mid 60s to mid 70s, or much stuff after the mid 80s. I do like some modern music (The Killers are just awesome, as is Lady GaGa), so it's not old fogey syndrome, I don't think.

which is why I still like Doo Wop, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. And equally important - I can still dance to it.

Being born in 1968, I have distinct memories of music starting about 1971 or so. It was only when I was older that I could put a label to the music I was hearing a lot of then, courtesy of my mother. So early 70s, I'm very fond of Philadelphia soul (Stylistics, Delphonics, etc.) and the 'song writer' singers of the era - James Taylor, Carly Simon, Carole King...

Mid - late 70s - lots of disco I love.

Early 80s - funk, new wave, hair metal

Late 80s - dance pop, more metal.

90s were kind of void of good music in my opinion - I hated grunge and the post-grunge rock (like Matchbox 20) that came after it.

2000s - very eclectic listening habits.
