In 2003, the album was ranked number 207 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.[9] The album was also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.[10]
Rock critic Robert Christgau, in one of his capsule reviews in The Village Voice, at the time of the album's release, gave it a rating of only C+, which denotes "a not disreputable performance, most likely a failed experiment or a pleasant piece of hackwork."[6]
Legacy
Abraxas was deemed "culturally, historically, or artistically significant" by the Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in their National Recording Registry in 2016.[11]

(13,885 posts)4. I found this album dangerous....
I would play it while riding my motorcycle... When I was riding in the Rockys.... and the beat of the music matched the frequency of the turns it was truly magical... Problem was when the frequency of the turns was slower than the beat of the music.....
I'd speed up looking for the rush..
Too fast, speed kills, turn of music for later...
Love the album..
