Agnes Obel - Stretch your Eyes/ Mary

Citizen of Glass is so dreamy, intimate and just takes me another place - Obel's vocals are ethereal and float above the cello compositions and her spare piano work. Her songwriting is good too.

"So tight and close
Around my throat with
the weight of all our lives
You can give to my heart
Thousand words or more
You can give to my heart
Thousand words or more"

"In my house the silence rang so loud
Under doorways, through the hallway down
Waiting for the secret to grow out
Oh what we do when no one is around"

Is that her on the Cello as well?

I have very minor production quibble on the first song (though maybe it's just my PC speakers, which are very good for PC speakers but not good by audiophile standards) ... I love where the vocals sit in the mix on the chorus, but in the verses, they're just a little too 'upfront' to the point of being a bit overpowering ... but like I say, very minor quibble ... and overall, very cool stuff. She does have the voice to pull off these high-volume and high-resolution passages and still sound great.

It's actually almost like a Fever Ray album ... but using symphonic instruments instead of 'machines' ...

She used some interesting instruments on Citizen of Glass too.. like a vintage celesta and a trautonium. Just adds to the whole dreaminess of it, and I love her instrumental pieces too. "September Song" is really lovely.
