I saw Tommy at a small theater about 3 months before he died.
Sadly, he was so screwed up on heroin he couldn't play very well. He even pointed to his nose and basically apologized while on stage. People were pissed.

I know it was very near his death, he was really on that night.
If he could have managed to not fucking DIE he would have become maybe the best ever.

attitude, he did play very well.
I saw the legendary tour of Robin Trower around the same time, Bridge of Sighs
amazing also
