Either songs that have helped give you comfort, and strength.
Fighting songs.
Songs that have described this deplorable situation
Or songs that describe Trump or his supporters.
Please post lyrics as well if apropos.
I think of this song by an unheralded band called World Party who peaked awhile back, with the lead singer of the ex-Waterboys.
The Ballad of the Little Man I think reflects that small minded little person inside each of us. But for me it reflects the deplorables minds, those that succumb to this "little man within". As well as the little man being Trump himself. And how we all have to fight against this little person inside that wants us to unfairly blame the easiest low hanging fruit on our problems. And how we have to "show no mercy" for the little man within. If we don't nip this now, its past the bud stage, things like White Nationalism will only rise.
PS. The album is called Private Revolution. And another song that is appropriate from that album is "Ship of Fools". The one hit from the album. Might be about those that have Trump supporting friends and relatives.
We're all at the mercy
Of the 7 deadly sins
We're all at the mercy
Of the elements in this world we're in
We're all at the mercy
Of each other's little whims
And we're all at the mercy
Of the little man within
Show no mercy, no more mercy
For this little man within
We're all at the mercy
Of the little man within
Hey mister how did you fit
Into the same shoes as him?
No more mercy, mo more mercy
Show no mercy, no more mercy
For the little man within
He tears up all the countryside
Stops when he should begin
He drowns when he tries to walk on water
But he never learns to swim
He's an animal but he thinks he's God
Gets him mixed up with him
And we're all at the mercy
Of this little man within
He was doing fine in 39
Thank God he did not win
He kept playing on his fiddle
As he watched old Rome cave in
He sold love away from his children's hearts
And told them it was sin
Now we're all at the mercy, we're all at the mercy
Of that little man within
Now he's sitting in the gardens
As the acid rain comes in
He got it covered full of rhino heads
And boots of leopard skin
He got the means, he make the harvest high
But you can count those hungry people die
We're all at the mercy
Of the greedy man within
So if you're feeling lonely, baby
If you're feeling blue
If you listen to your little friend
You know he'll tell you what to do
But if you hear his words and you get confused
Start believing they're all true
Then you have just been fooled again
Who said we won't get fooled again?
By the little man within
He might recognize the great one
He might understand what's good
But he believes that he can never live
The way they say he should
So he puts them in the asylum
And he just throws away the key
He keeps the deep freeze inside you
He keeps the deep freeze inside you
And he puts the light in me
So show no mercy, no more mercy
For the little man within
We're all at the mercy
Of this little man within
Hey sister, how did fit
Into the same shoes as him?
Show no mercy, show no mercy
Show no more mercy, no more mercy
For the little man within
Gonna kill, kill the little man within
Gonna kill, kill the little man within
Gonna kill the little man within
We've got to kill, kill the little man within, kill
Gonna kill the little man within

(9,895 posts)Green Day - American Idiot
Don't wanna be an American idiot
Don't want a nation under the new media
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind-fuck America
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
Where everything isn't meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We're not the ones who're meant to follow
For that's enough to argue
Well maybe I'm the faggot America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda
Now everybody do the propaganda
And sing along to the age of paranoia
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
Where everything isn't meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We're not the ones who're meant to follow
For that's enough to argue
Don't wanna be an American idiot
One nation controlled by the media
Information Age of hysteria
It's calling out to idiot America
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
Where everything isn't meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We're not the ones who're meant to follow
For that's enough to argue

(14,164 posts)To many actually do want to be an American Idiot. Or they have no idea they are. Voting against their best interests.

(8,709 posts)This is how I've felt about 46-1 since ever knowing of him back in the day.
It's also been historically fascinating to me with each Republican administration and, too, because of the heavenly chorus by the Jackson 5 on the LP.
We are amazed but not amused
By all the things you say that you'll do
Though much concerned but not involved
With decisions that are made by you
But we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Telling how you are gonna changing right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"you haven't done nothin'"
It's not too cool to be ridiculed
But you brought this upon yourself
The world is tired of pacifiers
We want the truth and nothing else, yeah
And we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Telling how you are gonna change right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"you haven't done nothing"
Jackson 5, join along with me, say
Doo doo wop - hey hey hey
Doo doo wop - oh whoa whoa
Doo doo wop - mmm now now
Doo doo wop - oh oh oh
Doo doo wop - dum dum dum
Doo doo wop
We would not care to wake up to the nightmare
That's becoming real life
But when misled who knows a person's mind
Can turn as cold as ice, mmm-hmm
Why do you keep on making us hear your song
Telling us how you are changing right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"you haven't done nothin'"
Yeah
Jackson 5, say it one more 'gain, say
Doo doo wop - na na na
Doo doo wop - oh
Doo doo wop - mmm co co
Doo doo wop - sing it, yeah
Doo doo wop - bum bum bum
Doo doo wop - mmm bum bum
Doo doo wop
Doo doo wop - sing it loud and for your people, say
Doo doo wop - mmm dum dum
Doo doo wop - I think y'all shy
Sing it louder
Doo doo wop - go go go
Doo doo wop - oh
I love y'all
Doo doo wop - mmm bum bum
Doo doo wop - mmm
Doo doo wop - brr eh deh deh
Doo doo wop - dum dum dum dum
Doo doo wop - eh deh deh
Doo doo wop - mmm
Doo doo wop - oh yeah

LYRICS
Well I woke up to the sound of silence
The cars were cutting like knives in a fist fight
And I found you with a bottle of wine
Your head in the curtains
And heart like the Fourth of July
You swore and said
We are not
We are not shining stars
This I know
I never said we are
Though I've never been through hell like that
I've closed enough windows
To know you can never look back
If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on
Carry on, carry on
So I met up with some friends
At the edge of the night
At a bar off 75
And we talked and talked
About how our parents will die
All our neighbours and wives
But I like to think
I can cheat it all
To make up for the times I've been cheated on
And it's nice to know
When I was left for dead
I was found and now I don't roam these streets
I am not the ghost you want of me
If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on
Woah
My head is on fire
But my legs are fine
Cause after all they are mine
Lay your clothes down on the floor
Close the door
Hold the phone
Show me how
No one's ever gonna stop us now
Cause we are
We are shining stars
We are invincible
We are who we are
On our darkest day
When we're miles away
So we'll come
We will find our way home
If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on
Carry on, carry on

(14,164 posts)Its like psychological torture under Trump. I'm sure there are similar effects on long time prisoners. Its very tiring. The initial shock wears off, but the relentless onslaught, day after day, hour after hour, chipping away at things we'd once thought finally decided, or finally achieved. The urge to normalize the pain is tremendous after so many months. But we have to hang on, keep the fight in us, and be ready to push forward when opportunity knocks.
The stolen two high court appointments. plus, all the lower court appointments. Imagine the difference in just that lower court make up if Democrats were in the White House. That is an example of just one thing we could get very depressed about. Its so easy to get down, give up, give in. The latest blow, Mueller himself, and his reluctance to recommend charging anyone for obstruction. Don Jr. & Kushner walking really is a travesty. Urgh..........stop...
That song is great for that pick up when you need it. When the daily torture drags on too long.

(17,573 posts)Yes, everything you said.
This song is one of my go-to tunes during tough times. I also think Fun. and Nate Ruess is/were under-rated. I actually woke up to P!nk because of the duet she did with Nate (Just Give Me a Reason). Although, now that I'm paying attention, I realize her voice has about 100x the texture and depth of his ... but he is a great songwriter so they made a good team.
And music, all kinds of music, is so important to get us through challenging times like this.

(14,164 posts)Love all the Trump imagery he used. Although this song(s) was originally meant as a critique on the British right wing politicians, and the wealthy capitalist "pigs" of the UK and the White House in the song isn't the same one in Washington, the message still resonates for any country that is ruled by corrupted moneyed oligarchs, and Waters uses the image of the US White House as the backdrop here.
I can't help but feel a little sad though watching this. This was not long after the election. The resistance was strong, but back then we had even more energy, more determination it seems. Performances like this, although inspiring at the time, when we thought Trump wouldn't last 6 months, is now a distant fantasy. He will now most likely fill all of his first term, and may very well steal the next one. As he slowly but surely replaces all top law and legal positions with corrupt true believers, all the while normalizing corruption.
part of the lyrics:
Big man, pig man
Ha ha charade you are
You well heeled big wheel
Ha ha charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
Youre nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying Keep on digging
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find
Down in the pig mine?
Youre nearly a laugh
Youre nearly a laugh
But youre really a cry
