But my fave rave from SD is "My Old School"...great anthem for so many reasons. Any album that has that gets my vote.

meaning that as the highest compliment!

I had the opportunity to see Donald Fagen live about 20 years ago, and he closed the concert encore with "My Old School". Little known fact: "Daddy G" was G. Gordon Liddy!

SD gets mega-bonus points for working that in, especially in 1973!

I am an ear player, don't read music - so figuring out all of those suspended complex chords wasn't easy for me

Good anecdote about Liddy!

I did actually get George Harrison's acoustic solo in the Beatles' "And I Love Her" down, but was told by many that I lacked passion! That was the closest I ever came to playing something on the guitar besides chords.

Other than being a medical doctor, I think being a musician is the finest thing one could be. I was hopeless at both, so settled for the law (or these days, the lack thereof).

And b/t/w, "Hey Nineteen" is another super great SD song.

Overrated? Not a chance. It was pure genius to fuse jazz and rock the way they did.

The poll I created is really quite impossible for me to answer - up to Gaucho I loved everything they did. After Gaucho....not so much

It's hard to pick a favorite SD album. Here lately I can't get enough of Two Against Nature and this song "West of Hollywood". What draws me to SD is their production. I can understand why audiophiles used to bring SD records into stores to test the speakers. Listening to SD through some good headphones is quite an experience. Their sound quality, along with the catchy hooks/melodies, and cryptic lyrics, make SD a truly unique musical journey. No other band sounds like SD.
