Howlin Wolf - How Many More Years
Docreed2003
(16,846 posts)Sam Phillips recorded most of Mr Burnett's early songs at Sun in Memphis. These songs were then sold out to labels like Chess in Chicago, where he ultimately moved. Sam Phillips, the man who brought the world Elvis, Jerry Lee, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins always said the greatest vocalist he ever recorded was "Howlin' Wolf". His music is my go to on many nights when I'm brooding and need to think...love him!!

(11,787 posts)So rock n roll for a blues man right? The last band I was in before the CSNY tribute probably did 13-15 wolf tunes. Can't remember....deep in the cups...

(40,416 posts)Ripped off by Led Zeppelin. Never paid Chester a dime.
That's why I've always despised Led Zeppelin. Their music sucks anyway.

(11,787 posts)Be cool baby... My dog is named Zeppelin!
And, love em or hate em, they turned a lot of people onto these great blues artists....

(40,416 posts)And Lemon Song is supposedly written by Plant.
They stole that song from Chester Burnett, never paid him diddly, and took credit for writing it.
I despise that.
Sorry, my friend.

(11,787 posts)Seriously, I do. But, look at blues before the 60's. They were all ripping each other off. Change a lyric and it's yours. I'm not condoning it, I'm just stating the obvious.
They stole from each other for decades. The difference is the money made. Zeppelin made millions borrowing from the Wolf..assholes! The Wolf borrowing from Leadbelly.... Crickets. That's just music man. Ain't been an original note since the first instrument.
And as far as not mentioning them? Uhm, yeah they did. I first listened to the Wolf and John Lee Hooker because Plant was on record in interviews talking about those that influenced him.
I appreciate your passion in defending these artists though! Sincerely! We're on the same team as blues afficianados!
For you.... Some Son House!

(40,416 posts)I saw the Wolf live once, late in his life. He was great.
When he sang Built for Comfort he hung over the front of the stage and sang it to a young woman in the front row. It was totally spontaneous, we presumed.
Burnett was a real showman.
