Played it a little slower than the record. Then i played kind of an "out there" piano underneath it all. (Think Mick Garson on Aladdin Sane.)

Then at the hook, we did crossing harmonies reminiscent of the Manhattan Transfer.

Some people loved it and others were annoyed that it was so different than the record.

I was ok with either opinion, because even those annoyed by it were admitting it was way different than the record! That was sort of the point.
