Bela Fleck's all star concert at Carnegie Hall in NYC last Sunday

The audience was asked to turn off all cell phones, and not record anything. Obviously, some DID record some of the pieces. As an erstwhile musician myself, I would usually disapprove of this, but this concert was SOOOO special, I'm glad someone preserved parts of it. Not everyone can get to Carnegie Hall when they want to.

I won't paste links, but just in case some of you are as hard core as I am, just go to Youtube, search for Béla Fleck+Carnegie Hall, and you will find links to the five or six numbers that were recorded.

The sound is not exactly professional, but it is astoundingly good for a cell phone. I think, anyway!! Never having recorded any live music with a cell phone, I have no basis for comparison.

If it WAS recorded professionally for a future CD, I would hope whoever posted these youtube clips would take them down when the CD comes out, as musicians have a hard enough time making money these days. But until that happens, if you want a real treat, go watch and, especially, LISTEN. There were more virtuosos on that stage than you usually see in ten concerts. I was there for the whole think, and if a CD does come out, I will be one of the first to buy it.

Did you see the Throw Down Your Heart tour? It was not the Flecktones but Bela talking about the origins of the banjo and African music. It will never go away in my mind.

I have seen them quite a few times and spoken with all of them, they always are so accessible if you just wait. Futureman is fascinating. Anyway, they are a group of multi talented musicians that have given me, and so many others, years of wonderful music. I hope to see them at least once more.

I would bet anything that show was recorded professionally and will be available soon.

I don't know when he last toured Europe (if at all), but it was nowhere near where I was. I would have loved to sit down with them, especially the Wooten brothers. Vic has to be one of the most versatile and imaginative bassists alive. Roy, of course, with is "drum synthotar" fully deserves his "futureman" persona.

By the way, in case anyone is curious about this talk of "Wootens" and "Futureman," check out this video, and be prepared to be transported someplace you have never been to before:
