1. During the darkest days of my 6 month staph infection, this was my motto.

I sang it over and over and over in my head - "I get knocked down, but I get up again, never going to keep me down!" I think this defiance and refusal to succumb is big part of why I made it through to the other side. Finally!

My other motto song was completely different - Lenny Kravitz, I Want to Get Away, for when I was most craving pain relief.

2. I'm so glad both those songs helped you. A 6-month staph infection sounds like a nightmare.

I find I just draw energy from music, any good music, though rock works best. Doesn't matter if I'm tired or depressed, whether it's physical or mental. I can feel energy flowing again, once I have some music.

My advanced nurse friend said I was very lucky to still be alive. Good thing my immune system was in working order.
