Eric Clapton - Promises

Editing to add, re some comments below, that I separate my appreciation of someone's music, especially music I loved for years before I heard they'd said or done something I objected to, from my opinion of what they said.

As a woman and a feminist, if I let my feminist evaluation of how many rock and blues artists treat women decide whether I was allowed to like their music, there would be relatively few left to appreciate.

I have a lot of RW relatives I still love and appreciate. People I can view as the complex persons they are, in all their facets. I can see what's good about them even while objecting to things they've said.

I don't see any reason to view artists differently.

We're not voting for lawmakers here, after all. We're appreciating music.

Yes to this and your edited OP. Do I think EC is an Ahole? Certainly. I would imagine a lot of them are. I am still going to listen to some Cream and DATD. Rest assured that I will never knowingly contribute anything substantial to him or anyone like him. The thing is that these songs are the fabric of our lives and one should be able to present them without being pounded for a different take on things. As stated before, this is the Music Appreciation Group. BTW, I am not a big fan of this song. Now, give me Crossroads live and I could look past EC being a massive penis cranium for approx. 4 minutes.

Still a dickhead, but that was damn good. BTW, has anyone checked out Jack Bruce's politics? (sorry, I shouldn't stir the pot) Thanks HPD. What part of the High Plains are you from? As my name indicates I am from Paha Sapa.

Statement of Purpose

Talk about your favorite music, musicians, albums, or anything else of a musical nature. All musical genres, past and present. Discussion of the music industry is also welcome.

highplainsdem is talking about some music that they like. This is very common in this forum. I occasionally see music from musicians that I don't care for. Or maybe the music itself is something I don't care for. No biggie, I just move on.

We see a lot of appreciation for different music in this forum. You don't have to appreciate the music posted here, or the musicians. But let's not gatekeep or police whose music is pure enough to be enjoyed. (With the exception of Nickelback, for obvious reasons.)

That doesn't mean I am not prone to a "Snakeskin Cowboy" fix in a very infrequent fit of self-loathing. Then a shower.

But I think it's funny (and rather fascinating) that Nugent and Tom Morello are really good friends. Their politics are worlds apart, but they can still be friends.

it's possible to get along with family members who are worlds apart politically -- as long as you don't discuss politics, at least not much, and laugh off the disagreements. And you don't live with them.

I'm not sure it's possible to be more closely involved with someone whose political views are very different from yours. I heard for years from a guy I found really interesting, who was very nice to me and fun to talk to, whom I'd decided I'd never get involved with because of his political views. We both cared a lot about politics. I got the impression at times that he thought he could change my views, but that was never ever ever going to happen. I could tell I wouldn't change his.

I've never understood how couples with very different political views could live together, let alone stay married for years, in some cases.
