A few thoughts:
- Bruford is still as fantastically good as ever.
- Wakeman's organ solo is better than the version on Yessongs. It's got some jazz elements.
- I dig that Waksman didn't pull a "stubborn old man" move. Everything he's using, except that Minimoog over his left shoulder is digital. There might be a real piano up there, but if so, I missed it. Even those organ parts are played on a Roland, instead of insisting on a 250# B-3 & a 100# Leslie.
- How's is still precise, and I still don't care for his tone. (From the "some things never change" file.)
- Finally, Jon's voice is amazing for his age. I know I've lost at least 4 half-steps off my high end, and I'm only 65. His voice is still so high, clear & crisp, it's amazing.

When I transferred this from youtube the title didn't come with it. In the title, it indicates this is from '89. That seems about right because when I saw them on the Union tour in '93(?) they looked similar (even though Howe has always looked a little more mature to me). Still, what a great performance. I can see the Howe tone thing a little, but man that guy can pick. It's just all-around good performing by everyone. Also, thanks for the lesson, Professor. Very nice insights. And yeah, Bill Bruford, holy crap!

Not that Jon wasn't superb, but 32 years back is a big difference for the singing muscles.
Thirty-two years ago i had a falsetto that would impress Phillip Bailey.
Not any more!

Jon has looked the same throughout his career and as I said, Steve Howe has always looked old to me. However, I will take them at any age or condition.

BTW Professor, I am going to attempt a weekly show with the episodes dropping 8 songs at 6 PM MDT on Saturdays. It will be titled "Saturday Night Deep Dive". I did one last week under another name. I am trying to do "B" side (maybe "C&quot stuff with an eye to familiarity for some. That doesn't mean I am not prone to having too much familiarity with a song, as long if it is good. The quality of the music will be up to the ears of the beholder. I hope you will enjoy it even if for you it may be a little too mainstream. I will be trying to play to a relatively wide demo. My hope is to surprise some of you with songs you might know and have forgotten about, or not know at all but you think it was worth the time to listen. A person with extensive knowledge may be disappointed in my selections. Please be kind in any criticism. I am just trying to do a Sat. night event for a few weeks and hope folks will enjoy it( or not). Hope to hear from you on this.
