(2,050 posts)My record collection numbers in the low thousands, I never quit listening to vinyl or stopped collecting it.
Now its come back, Ive worn out maybe 5-6 turntables over the years and Im researching my next purchase, I never did get into the whole digital thing luckily and even stopped my subscription to Stereophile a few years back because even though vinyl was coming back it seemed that all they were writing articles about was the daily changing digital formats.
As far as Im concerned its all about finding a new way to sell the same old music in a new format, how many versions of one album do you need to own?.
But its all about the music to me and vinyl sounds the best.
And they sure made some great music back in the day didnt they?
I just cant get into most of the new music, but Im an old fogy now, just like my parents were when they didnt care for my music.
I do try to listen to new music for one reason, my kids.
They found that they couldnt live without Robin Trower, Led Zeppelin, Alan Parsons, Yes and many others.
So I try to stay somewhat current.
Its all good music.

(24,695 posts)I have a Marantz.....and when I listened to Tommy Bolin for the first time it was in a record store and the guy selling stereos said look I am going to play this one song on both turntables, and he said you tell me which one sounded better, I told him I liked the Marantz, an d he said then that is what your ear is hearing from that turntable. Don't get me wrong MacIntosh makes a a excellent turntable and the song he played was Post Toastee by Tommy Bolin....he said and I agreed with him after the demonstration of that song he said if the stylus can pick up that bass the way it was recorded and not sound fuzzy.....then you have a turntable and that needle and mine has a counter balance on the end that was tuned to keep as much pressure off the record as possible....
My very first concert was out in California and it was the group called MC5, my very two albums that I still have was from Jefferson Airplane and the Doors, and I asked my mom.....what do you think and she said here lets listen to some Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves and Marty Robbins, because after all they led the way for Jefferson Airplane and The Doors ......I do love these three performers in fact I have these albums from my mother........in fact I may just post some .....

(2,050 posts)Its in my list, I wanted to let them get the bugs if any worked out before I made a decision, the Marantz looks good also but as I use a McIntosh preamp (C-714) I may go that way just because they do know how to build keepers.
Ive also thought about the new table from Pro-Ject I think it is maybe the X-7 ?
But I did buy a Music Hall MMF-9 series one in battleship grey years back that was the biggest lemon in my stereo collecting lifetime.
It went through three bearing in two years, but
the bearing is part of the platter so its not cheap to replace after the years warranty is up.
I had bought it as there were no sensors or such to go bad on it, my two TTs before it died because they couldnt be repaired, then I buy a TOTL TT that turns out to be crap.
I do have a Technics SL-1700 that is mint but not working, but I can buy every part of the table new, its the same as those 1200 DJ TTs but fully automatic, sometimes you have to go back to the classics
