Related: About this forumjust fell into a Tina Weymouth rabbit hole. She was such a master of the groove
Saw some Brit dipshit on youtube post a "best 10 women bassists" video and he left her off the entire damn list.
We all love this.
This is a cool cover
But Tom Tom Club was really just a side hustle
Her bass was always a huge piece of the Talking Head sound - Whatever that sound happened to be that record

I've got a bad feeling that Darcy Wretzky IS on that list. Fact is, the only real player in Smashing Pumpkins was Chamberlain. The other 3 fell between hack & pedestrian.
Well, I found a Top 10 video, and it might be the one you saw.
In this video, all the women are actually outstanding, but are all playing in a style from the late 80s to today. And, except for Tal Wilkenfeld & Michelle Ndegeocello (who are incredible) they all are in that heavy percussive style.
So, the guy has a bias for that technique. He'd never give Tina the time of day.

(12,152 posts)I love her playing. David Byrne gets the accolades, but without her & Franz, Talking Heads would not have been nearly as compelling.
