with the Kinks. They were part of the British invasion and according to Wiki, highly influential in their music.

I love 10CC! Graham Gould wrote Bus Stop for the Hollies and other great songs in the 1960's before he was in 10CC.

The Byrds were well respected but definitely underrated. When they came out they were really overshadowed by the British Invasion.
And a lot of people basically tagged them as the band that covered Dylan. They were much, much more than that. One of my all time favorite bands.

And, i like all the bands you listed, but The Cars were unique. They sounded like nobody before them and nobody after them sounded much like them. The quirkiness, the interplay between the 2 guitars and keyboard all playing different figures, the 2 lead singers.

I know it seems counterintuitive to say that a band that sold 30 million albums was underrated, but remember they're just now getting in the HoF and one of the guys has been dead for a decade.

Just What I Needed is an absolute gem of a rock tune. Great hooks, great vocals, and a guitar solo one could sing.

Now, if you mean the later stuff like "Drive", ok. That's a bit overproduced and it was super popular due to the MTV thing, but from that same era, "Magic" and "You Might Think" are, once again, superbly crafted tunes.

That said, my favorite thing from them, early days, was "You're All I've Got Tonight/Bye Bye Love" pairing, that, IIRC, was on the first album.

They were ok. Way overplayed on my then limited options of radio. Shake It Up was one of the first albums I ever bought. They were a great band with a really unique g uitarist.

Take a look at the DU2 archives in this musicians' group.

Elliot Easton is my number one most underrated guitar player in rock history.

Guy was the lead guitarist of a band that sold over 30 million albums, but never is on the radar when peoplel talk great guitar players. Basically a super successsful, but nearly unknown super player.

Guy has MAD skills. Singable solos, but with every trick in the book tossed in with impeccable taste.

And, the flavors of his solos were so different on so many songs. The solo on Best Friend's Girl, Shake It Up, Candy O, and You Might Think don't even resemble each other, but you can still tell it's the same guy playing them.

Quite the expert.

I'm not sure T Rex was underrated though. It's just that Marc Bolan died before he turned 30.

Thankfully Squeeze is still touring and putting out new music. Difford and Tillbrook are amazing songwriters. You can even get this t-shirt.
