The blood red moon, handheld, through the trees.

I almost forgot to shoot the eclipse. I was hard at work editing some event photos that I had shot earlier in the day. I was really tired, and didn't want to bother with a tripod. I thought I would just try it handheld to see what happens. To be honest, I underestimated how dark the full red moon would be, and how high the ISO would go. The original files were super ugly with noise. I processed the image in Adobe Camera Raw, and masked out the night sky. I then brought the exposure up on just the moon, thinking the noise wouldn't be that noticeable.

I promise not to be so lazy for the next eclipse in November! LOL!

I wondered if someone photographed the eclipse last night…. My hubby and one son went out into the backyard to see it, around 11:30 pm.

Grumpy laughs at the great distance of his photographic subjects: "I don't need no stinkin' tripod!"

It was a nice experiment.

Here in eastern Virginia where the Potomac joins the Chesapeake Bay we had 100% cloud cover from 8:00 PM until sunrise Monday.
