with both my camera and cell phone. Happened to have the cell phone in hand when I heard the honking as the geese were flying towards me, but over the pond behind the house. I got two shots. That was it!

I've seen this scene so many times but have never captured it.

There's something emotional about viewing this and hearing their honks.

residents in North Carolina, particularly in the Triangle area where I live. We have large/small lakes and lots of retention ponds. There is a retention pond right behind my house and there are usually geese there almost every day. But they fly off at night and come back early in the morning.

This group was not coming off the pond behind me. I have been outside in my yard at times when geese have literally flown right over my head--between the houses--to land on the retention pond. Thrills me every time.
