there is a bald eagle nest about 70 miles from austin. a pair of eagles return there every year. i went today to see what I could find
heres one of the adults in a tree
heres the other adult coming in for a landing
adult and eaglet
looking out from the nest
both adults
it was really tough shooting these guys. because of the location of the nest the sun is behind it during the time I was there. I could go later in the afternoon but wasnt able to do that today

(5,113 posts)i wasnt real happy with teh results. this time i tried everything i could to get a sharp shot. besides the sun the nest is 100-150 yards away from the road so i need a big telephoto. i used the mirror lockup on my camera to reduce shake.
much happier this year

This site. I watched it all last year from the time the eggs were laid to when the babies fledged. So facinating to see what they go through with everyday struggles from sitting on the eggs when they are in the middle of a snow storm or attacks from owls trying to get to the babies.
This site is so addicting!
And it shouldn't be too long before it all starts again

(3,691 posts)I had the chance to see a bald eagle's next last year and they are truly spectacular birds to see. I was amazed at their incredible wing span when they flew. Awesome!

(826 posts)we saw near Llano you got the best pictures possible. We saw it a few years ago and it is stopping traffice because of the nearness to the highway; in fact an accident had just occurred about an hour before we passed. These are truly magnificent birds and kudos to you for such excellent photography.
