I know we've already posted about Vivian Maier the Chicago nanny whose photographs were discovered at auction.
There are 2 exhibits of her works showing here, Ive been to both and theyre worth seeing.
Vivian Maier - Street Photographer
December 15, 2011 - January 28, 2012
Howard Greenberg Gallery
41 East 57th Street
And also a smaller exhibit at:
December 15 - February 25, 2012
Steven Kasher Gallery
521 west 23rd street
There is also a big bonus at this gallery also showing is a larger exhibit of the photographer Weegee that shouldn't be missed.

(22,380 posts)Once upon a long time ago I took my son (by train) to Chicago to see the Art Institute, they had given him a scholarship (we still could not afford the rest), and he and I walked and chanced upon an upstairs hidden exhibit of Mapplethorpe photography.
This was when Jesse Helms had singled Mapplethorpe out for persecution, and he was OUR Senator... at the same time "Piss Christ" was upsetting the country.
Never, ever will I forget that exhibit and the wonder of stumbling upon it.
If I were in New York, you know where I would go post haste.
Thanks for telling.

(4,483 posts)Andres Serrano's "Piss Christ", I saw it at the Brooklyn Museum in the late 80's and also this weekend down the street from the Vivian Maier and it really still holds up as an image. It was a good art day.

(22,380 posts)it was exhibited in my town at the South Eastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) I was so happy with the beautiful gold color surrounding Jesus. I mean that sincerely.
Thanks for responding with this, I sit here with a big grin.
