My photography (pics)

Cross posted from the Lounge. Stupidly I didn't even bother to think if we had a photo group here.

---------------------

I like to consider myself something of an amateur photographer. It's just a small hobby, no formal training outside one high school photography class, and I wouldn't dare to suggest that I'm all that talented. However I've seen some others here post their photos either in their sigs or as part of the DU photo contest, so I thought I'd share my small collection of favs. I take very few photos to tell you the truth, far fewer than I should. Many of these were taken on holiday when I didn't have an excuse NOT to take photos. My main interest is composition, lighting and form. I'm not a portrait photographer and in fact prefer people aren't in most of my shots. Here's my photobucket gallery of my favourite shots over the years:

And a few of my personal favourites:

I probably will be forced to say a few things later when I'm more awake.
Show more, take more, and welcome to the photography group. I'm so glad you found us, please stay with us, we need you.
(where did you think the photo contests originate?)

We are gathering submissions at this moment for one for our annual seasonal contests. The subject is "Spring".
Please go shoot one, or find one.
Again: Welcome.

Photos are wonderful -- but sadly, the shots of Venice may not be possible in a few years. Water's rising and the Queen of the Adriatic is fast becoming the Atlantis of the Adriatic.

I've been meaning to photoshop that guys head out of the lower right corner for some time. I remember it was very difficult to get a clean shot without any tourists in gondolas. That one slipped in and was an accident, I find it distracting.

For not liking people in your photos, you use them to great advantage. I really like how you've used them to set scale and mood.

in the Photography group too. I'm really enjoying viewing your photos. I particularly like your perspective of the scenery/theme. It's why I like and truly enjoy looking at other photographers works. An "ah ha" moment comes out, as in "why didn't I think of that?" Always a learning experience, at least on my part.

Anyway, your photos are very inspirational and very well executed.

Nice job.

By the way, I'm very much like you in not liking people in my photos, but sometimes I use them for perspective.

It means a lot, really! I need to start shooting more. Going to Hawaii tomorrow for vacation so I know I'll get in some shooting there, but I need to make it a larger part of my normal routine.
