Cicadas!

The cicadas have gotten a lot of press here in the NY Metro area but they can be found only here and there in small pockets. There are none near my home. I have heard them over the past few weeks while hiking nearby but never met up with any. Finally the other day, I came across lots of these lovable creatures but had only my PowerShot. I had a devil of a time trying to focus in since the display simply cannot be seen in bright light but did end up with two decent shots.





They are already dying off but I hope to get out this week with my new dslr and perhaps get some better shots. They are amazing bugs.There have been a lot of people complaining and freaking out about them but count me as a fan.

I made a few recordings with my iPhone but none really capture the surround sound of being out there. You can't believe how loud these creatures are and close-up you hear a variety of different sounds from them.

8. I've been in several infestations. It is deafening. It sounds like my Tinnitus, but at least

an octave lower. I have crickets mixed in with my Cicadas. Every night is a warm summer night in my ears.
