My father was an amateur astronomer--a pretty serious one--
and I don't remember him ever calling it by name. And I'm sure
I've seen that effect previously.
Interestingly, the sun was setting--but much farther south and west
than the camera, which was pointed east. There was some of that
effect southeast, but looked more like normal sunset effects.

(60,071 posts)9. Move. ;) My house is on a hill, and the front faces SE. Sunrises and the Belt of Venus
are what I see daily. I rarely see the sunrise. I'm retired so I don't need to get up that early.
