Related: About this forumHonestly: It's snowing in my part of the South
Too cold to stay out at 18 degrees. We are not used to this, bless our hearts.
But I took this photo as proof, and one more I may use in the contest (different subject, just in case the contest is blind

(130,865 posts)We've HAD our snow, in MD, and today 18's likely to be our high. Not at cottage, so no pics worth anything today.

(60,014 posts)I don't like that 7 degree forecast low for tomorrow night, either!

(46,436 posts)out into the country here where the grass is greening up, pussy willows have erupted, waterfalls are running, and Turnagain Arm is ice-free. Current temperature is 43 degrees, about what it's been for the past three weeks or so. I'll post some pictures later.
But there's no climate change, of course.

Tomorrow morning, though, is another story.

(22,756 posts)enough to be yucky and cold... but not enough to build snowmen, go sledding, have a serious snowball fight, go snowshoeing, make snow angels, build an igloo, ski, go snowmobiling, etc, etc....

(18,219 posts)Heck, I can still see grass.
Actually, I sympathize with you. I am living in PA now, but lived in Houston for years, and I know that the south has no ability to deal with this. Stay off the roads and keep warm.

(46,436 posts)way back in the '60s. I have some old high school classmates as "friends" on FB, although I'm about ready to ditch the whole lot of them for their climate change denial and Obama hatred. So glad I left there in 1968 and never looked back.

(18,219 posts)Who knows, you might not have been the same person that you are if you had stayed. But I was surprised at the cosmopolitan and progressive attitude of Houston. They had a large gay population, lots of people from other countries all over the world. And the neighborhoods were not as segregated as they were (and incredibly still are) in my part of PA. But if you got out of the city, yikes.

(46,436 posts)I would have missed that whole San Francisco hippie thing, possibly would have ended up in prison for MJ possession, and would never have made it to Alaska. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the choices I've made. Houston is probably quite a bit different than it used to be -- it's just that my "friends" are in Pasadena, which is another story altogether.
I'm surprised about Pennsylvania. I would not have imagined it to be so segregated. We don't think about that much up here because many of our neighborhoods, including my own, have people of all races and nationalities. Just on this block alone there are whites, blacks, Native Alaskans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, and Hispanics, old people, young people, gays and straights. I really like it that way.

(22,380 posts)It is paltry, I know. It came to about 3 inches and coupled with the cold has laid us pretty lame nevertheless. I'll go on a nature walk in a while and take my camera. Maybe I'll come up with something.

(31,382 posts)We only got about 1 1/2"--but it's enough to look like winter!
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)that it was good-natured ridicule. Actually, 3 inches of snow is nothing to sneeze at. Yesterday morning, it was -12 degrees. This morning it was -9 degrees. Unbearable....and I still have to crawl out of bed and head to work. The only good thing is that we didn't have snow and ice on the same days as the intolerable temps.
I hate winter!
